Concordia String Trio to present recital
Peoria, Illinois . . . February 7, 2003 . . . The Concordia
String Trio will present a recital on Sunday, March 2, at 3
p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker
Avenue. Trio members are Marcia Henry, violinist,
Concertmaster of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and faculty
member at Bradley University; Leslie Perna, violist, and Darry
Dolezal, cellist, who are both on the faculty at the
University of Missouri Ð Columbia.
The recital will feature the world premiere of a new piece
entitled Nightlife, written especially for the Concordia
String Trio by Dr. Jeffrey Hoover, Chair of the Fine Arts
Department at Illinois Central College. The trio also will
perform Sergei Taniev's String Trio in D Major, and will be
joined by oboist S. Blake Duncan for the Mozart Oboe Quartet
in F Major.
The Concordia String Trio gave a debut recital in March 2000
and has since performed recitals and lecture/demonstrations in
Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, and Vermont. In
March, the Trio will return to Boston to play concerts and
record a new composition at the Berklee School of Music. Last
spring they presented a concert of new works written for the
Trio by Boston composers at the Tsai Center for the Performing
Arts. Last summer, the Trio performed at the Warebrook
Contemporary Music Festival in Vermont, and has been invited
to return for a second season this July.
A review of the Trio's debut recital said, "The Concordia
String Trio set a new standard of excellence for chamber music
performance in Peoria. They had the telepathic ensemble and
bold individual virtuosity that one hopes to hear in this very
demanding branch of classical music."
Admission is free and open to the public. For more
information, call the Bradley Music Department at 677-2602.
