Summer enrichment program for high school students offered
Peoria, Illinois -- February 7, 2003 -- Bradley
University will offer a variety of weeklong
program opportunities this summer to a limited
number of high school juniors and seniors.
Programs in nursing, physical therapy and
teaching will be offered from June 15 through
21.
The summer enrichment program
is designed to acquaint
students with the many aspects
of a chosen profession through
a variety of hands-on
experiences while allowing
them to experience college
life.
Students will
stay in a
Bradley
residence
hall, where
each room is
equipped with
a computer,
and will
participate in
activities
using
Bradley's
recreational
facilities.
The nursing
program will
provide an
opportunity
to explore
various
nursing
roles.
Participants
will observe
and interact
with nurses
in practice
settings such
as critical
care,
rehabilitation,
obstetrical,
medical,
surgical and
mental health
units. The
Bradley
nursing
laboratory
will be used
to practice
cardiopulmonary
resuscitation
(CPR) and
nursing
assessment
techniques.
Programs,
tours and
observations
will be held
in clinical
facilities in
the Peoria
area.
The teaching
program will
allow
participants
to assist
and observe
in classes
designed for
students age
five through
twelve;
explore
potential
careers in
early
childhood,
elementary,
special and
secondary
education;
and
participate
in workshops
focused on
the teaching
profession.
The program
in physical
therapy and
health
science
will
include an
introduction
to physical
therapy and
other
health care
career
opportunities,
interaction
with
physical
therapists
in a
variety of
real or
mock
practice
environments,
tours of
several
local
health care
facilities,
and
discussion
of
professional
issues and
research
techniques.
The cost is
$350 and
includes
all
expenses
for six
nights
lodging,
meals, and
program
related
costs.

accepted
until
June1.
