Black History Month events planned for February
A number of events have been planned to celebrate February as
Black History Month.
Among the highlights of the observance, a brown bag-it
lunch will be held on February 3, 4, 5, 6 and 11 at
noon in the Garrett Center. The lunches will focus on
discussions about Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Dr. W.E.B. Dubois.
A minority career networking reception will be
held from 5 to 7 p.m. on February 7 in the
Michel Student Center ballroom. A guest speaker
will discuss National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness
Day on February 10 at 6 p.m. in the Garrett
Center.
A poetry reading will be held on February
15 from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Garrett
Center, and an "Eye on the Prize" video
will be shown in the Garrett Center at 5
p.m. on February 18 and 25.
Bryan Ellis, an internationally
renowned storyteller, author, and
environmental educator, will
perform "Around the World in Less
Than 80 Minutes," a collection of
stories dealing with diversity, on
February 26 at 7 p.m. in the Michel
Student Center ballroom. The event
is free and open to the public.
