A number of events have been planned to celebrate February as Black History Month.

Among the highlights of the observance, a brown bag-it lunch will be held on February 3, 4, 5, 6 and 11 at noon in the Garrett Center. The lunches will focus on discussions about Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Dr. W.E.B. Dubois.

A minority career networking reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on February 7 in the Michel Student Center ballroom. A guest speaker will discuss National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on February 10 at 6 p.m. in the Garrett Center.

A poetry reading will be held on February 15 from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Garrett Center, and an "Eye on the Prize" video will be shown in the Garrett Center at 5 p.m. on February 18 and 25.

Bryan Ellis, an internationally renowned storyteller, author, and environmental educator, will perform "Around the World in Less Than 80 Minutes," a collection of stories dealing with diversity, on February 26 at 7 p.m. in the Michel Student Center ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.
