Symphonic Winds to present Sousa-style concert
Peoria, Illinois -- January 24, 2003 -- The
Bradley University Symphonic Winds, conducted by
Dr. David Vroman, will present a costumed,
turn-of-the-century park concert in Dingeldine
Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue
on the Bradley campus on Sunday, February 23, at
3 p.m. The concert will be presented in the
same style that John Philip Sousa used to
entertain large audiences and which made him a
household name throughout the United States. A
pre-concert lecture by Mrs. John Philip Sousa,
depicted by Bradley teacher Molly Sloter, will
be given at 2:15 pm.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Tickets are available at the Cultural Events Box
Office on the Bradley campus or by calling
677-2650. The Box Office is open from noon to 5
p.m. weekdays. Tickets also will be available at
the door.
Vocalist Deb Austin will appear as Sousa's "Lady
in White"; and John Williams of WGN radio in
Chicago, formerly of WMBD, will be the narrator.
Also featured with be cornetist Dr. Todd Kelly
performing as the great Herbert L. Clarke. The
concert will feature novelty numbers and music
of great composers fulfilling Sousa's dual
function of entertaining the audience and
bringing the best music available to the public.
