Dr. Romeo B. Garrett Week activities planned at Bradley
Peoria, Illinois ... March 21, 2003 ... Bradley University
will observe Dr. Romeo B. Garrett Week April 14 through 18
with a variety of events.
The annual Academic Achievement Awards program will be held
on Monday, April 14, in Neumiller Lecture Hall at 7 p.m. Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. awards and leadership awards will be
presented.
"Unity Through Diversity" is the theme for the International
Festival, which will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday,
April 15, in the Michel Student Center ballroom. Students
from various cultures and countries will join with community
groups to educate and celebrate cultural differences. The
event will feature music, literature, entertainment, food,
and arts reflecting traditions from a multitude of cultures.
Admission is free for Bradley students and $2 for the public.
Dr. Arwin Smallwood, Director of African-American Studies at
Bradley, will present "Reflecting on Dr. Romeo B. Garrett,"
on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Romeo B. Garrett
Center.
A fashion show will be held on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.
in the Michel Student Center ballroom.
The observance will conclude with the Apollo Night talent
showcase on Friday, April 18, in Dingeldine Music Center at 7
p.m. The program will feature performers from Bradley and
the community.
Garrett Week is celebrated annually to honor Dr. Romeo B.
Garrett, the first African-American professor at Bradley. He
taught at the University for 30 years. For more information,
