Gloria Steinem to speak at Bradley
Peoria, Illinois...March 6, 2003... Activist and writer Gloria
Steinem will speak on March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Michel
Student Center ballroom on the Bradley University campus as
part of Women's History Month activities. The event is free
and open to the public.
In her lecture entitled "Feminism 101," Steinem will discuss
the politics of gender, economic power of the female minority
consumer market, and workplace issues.
Perhaps best known as the co-founder, editor, and owner of
Ms. Magazine, Ms. Steinem's name is synonymous with the
advancement of women's social equality in America and
throughout the world.
As Ms. Magazine became a symbol of the women's rights
movement, Steinem established the Ms. Foundation for Women,
devoted to helping the lives of women and girls in three main
categories: economic security, leadership, and health and
safety. She convened the historic 1971 Women's Political
Caucus, founded the Coalition of Labor Union Women, and is
president of Voters for Choice.
Steinem's visit is sponsored by the Bradley Women's Studies
Program and ICAC.
