Author to give reading at Bradley

Fiction writer and essayist Josip Novakovich will read from his work on March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Marty Theatre in the Michel Student Center.

A native of Croatia, Novakovich is the author of "Yolk: Short Stories, Salvation and Other Disasters," and a book of essays, "Apricots from Chernobyl." Novakovich also is the author of two well-known creative writing textbooks, "Fiction Writers Workshop," and "Writing Fiction Step by Step."

He has won the Guggenheim Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Whiting Writers' Award, and a number of other awards. His fiction and essays have appeared in "Paris Review," "Double Take," "Ploughshares," "Antaeus," "The New York Times Magazine," and several periodicals. His poetry has been included in the "Best American Poetry 1997."

The event is part of the Visiting Writers Series. Admission is free and open to the public.
