Jazz Ensembles present "An Afternoon of Jazz" with
guest artist Ron Jones
Peoria, Illinois -- October 1, 2003 -- The Bradley University Jazz
Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Dr. Todd
Kelly, will present "An Afternoon of Jazz" on Sunday, October
19, at 3 p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W.
Barker Avenue. Tickets are $5 and admission is free for
students.
The 16 Ð member Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of
styles, including Duke Ellington's "C Jam Blues" and "Sultry
Sunset," "The Chicken," Count Basie's "Be Nice to Me," and
Gordon GoodwinÕs "Mueva Los Huesos." The Jazz Ensemble is the
flagship ensemble of Bradley's jazz program, and has recently
performed at the Western Illinois Jazz Festival, the Illinois
Collegiate Jazz Festival, and the Cherry Street Brewing
Company in Galesburg. Last summer they performed in France and
Switzerland, including performances at Disney Paris, the
Brienz Jazz Festival, the Vienne Jazz Festival, and the
prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival.
For this performance, they will be joined by guest artist Ron
Jones on saxophone. Jones tours throughout the midwest
performing at universities, jazz clubs, and jazz festivals.
He taught for ten years as a clinician at the Jamey Aebersold
Jazz Camps. He also has performed as a guest soloist/clinician
at many universities.
Jones recorded his first CD "A Vision of Beauty" in 1997. It
has received national radio airplay and has received excellent
reviews in Jazziz and Cadence Magazines. He has performed with
some of the biggest names in jazz such as Wycliffe Gordon,
Winard Harper, Dianne Reeves, Rufus Reid, Nat Adderley, James
Williams, Terell Stafford, Wynton & Branford Marsalis,
Richard Groove Holmes, Bobby Shew, Donald Brown, Adam
Nussbaum, David Baker, Jimmy Raney, and Hal Galper.
The Jazz Lab Band will perform "Blues for Bubber," James
Brown's "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," Tito Puentes "Ran Kan
Kan," and "Cream of the Crop."
The concert is part of BradleyÕs Music Scholarship Concert
