Peoria, Illinois...October 22, 2003...A NAFTA export classification seminar for beginning and experienced international trade practitioners will be held on Tuesday, October 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Michel Student Center, meeting room 6, on the Bradley University campus.

The seminar is open to the public. The cost is $40 per person and includes lunch, refreshments, and parking. Additional attendees from the same company are welcome at a cost of $25. To register, call (309) 677-3631 or visit www.bradley.edu/turnercenter/events.

Paul Coulombe, regional training coordinator for the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, will be the featured speaker. He has trained hundreds of companies on the classification of goods, NAFTA, customs valuation, and duty deferral.

The seminar will focus on compliance with customs regulations; harmonized systems and why they are important; the differences among heading, sub-headings, tariff items, and classification numbers; general rules of interpretation; and the importance of punctuation in legal and explanatory notes.

The seminar was developed through a partnership between the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and the NAFTA Opportunity Center at Bradley University as a service to Illinois small business.
