Banquet of Baroque concert is October 5

Peoria, Illinois -- September 8, 2003 -- The Bradley Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. John Jost, will present a "Banquet of Baroque" concert on Sunday, October 5, at 3 p.m. in the Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue.

Featured soloists will include Kyle Dzapo, associate professor of music at Bradley and principal flutist of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, and Marcia Henry, lecturer in music and concertmaster of the Peoria Symphony. Admission is $5 for adults and free for students.

Works on the program include Handel's Concerto Grosso Opus 6, No. 9 in F major with student soloists Laura Leigh Johnson and Jeffrey Schmidgall, violins, and Brent Nohl, cello; Vivaldi's Concerto Opus 10, No. 3, "Il Cardellino" (the Goldfinch), for flute and strings, featuring Dr. Dzapo; a Telemann suite entitled "Nations Ancient and Modern;" and the Bach Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor, featuring Ms. Henry.

Dr. Jost, professor of music and director of choral activities at Bradley, is serving as principal conductor of the orchestra this year while conductor Stephen Huang is studying in Romania as a Fulbright Scholar. David Commanday, music director of the Peoria Symphony, will direct the Chamber Orchestra concert on November 21, and David Arrive, a doctoral student at Northwestern University currently directing the orchestra at Princeton University, will direct the Concerto-Aria Competition Winners Concert on March 7. Jost will conduct the final concert of the season on April 17 when the Orchestra presents the oratorio King David by Arthur Honegger, in collaboration with the Bradley Community Chorus and soloists.
