St. Louis Brass Quintet to perform at Bradley
Peoria, Illinois . . . September 24, 2003 . . . The St. Louis Brass
Quintet, one of the worldÕs foremost brass ensembles, will
perform a free concert on Thursday, October 9, at 7:30 pm. in
Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue.
Admission is free.
Founded in 1964, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet is one of
America's oldest continuing brass quintets. The quintet
performs throughout the United States, with recent
international tours to Mexico, Norway, India and Japan. Now,
more than 2,500 engagements later, the only original member
still in the group -- and the only one who actually lives in
St. Louis -- is trombonist Melvyn Jernigan. The other quintet
members hold top positions across the United States.
Originally made up of members of the St. Louis Symphony,
playing children's concerts around the St. Louis area, the
quintet now goes on three ten day concert tours throughout the
United States each year, plus recording and international
touring.
Members of the group are Allan Dean and Ray Sasaki, trumpet,
Thomas Bacon, horn, Melvyn Jernigan, trombone, and Daniel
Perantoni, tuba. The Saint Louis Brass Quintet performs the
entire spectrum of great music for brass - from the works of
today's composers to Baroque and Renaissance music transcribed
for modern instruments. For many audiences they also offer
lighter fare: popular music of the Americas, jazz arrangements
of standards by Ellington/Strayhorn, Gershwin and Cole Porter.
The Heartland Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest funded by
the National Endowment for the Arts, supports this
presentation with additional contributions from General Mills
Foundation, Land OÕLakes Foundation, and the Sprint
Corporation.
