Department develops new graduate concentrations
Two new graduate-level concentrations developed by the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering & Technology are pending approval by Bradley University. The new graduate concentrations are: (1) Lean/Six Sigma concentration for the master’s of manufacturing engineering program, and (2) financial engineering concentration for the master’s of industrial engineering program. Launching Bradley’s first Lean manufacturing system design course
In a recent job search for industrial or manufacturing engineering positions, familiarity with Lean manufacturing consistently was ranked as either the first or second most important skill employers sought from prospective employees. Although it is simple to introduce what Lean manufacturing “is” in terms of philosophy, companies are now seeking engineers with real-world knowledge and practical work experience. Full Story > |

ASM Summer Camp 2009
Twenty-one Peoria-area high school students celebrated the Wonderful World of Materials this summer by participating in the ASM Materials Camp, which has been offered jointly by Bradley’s Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering & Technology Department and the Peoria Chapter of ASM for the last five years. Modeled after the National ASM-International Chapter Camp in Cleveland, Ohio, the week-long day camp provided students with hands-on experiences focusing on materials forming, fascinating research projects, and enlightening facility tours. Department highlights
To commence the 2009-2010 academic year, the IMET Department celebrated a number of “firsts,” including the Graduate Student Orientation and first Lean manufacturing course. The first Learning Community was also established in order to provide students with extra course help outside of the classroom. The department’s refurbished library is now more accessible to students than ever, and its revamped laboratories are ready for hands-on projects. Full Story > |

Building the community: Graduate Student Orientation
Creating a greater culture of interaction between faculty and graduate students, the Graduate Student Orientation began the school year with a community-centered atmosphere. Held on August 25 in Morgan Hall, the orientation featured presentations from faculty members and dinner for attendees. Approximately 21 graduate students joined the IMET faculty for valuable preparatory suggestions and announcements for the 2009-2010 academic terms. Full Story > |

Remembering Dr. Rita Newton
Rita Newton, Ph.D., passed away on June 23, 2009, after several years of fading memory. Although she reached a point where the present was quickly forgotten and many discussions were repeated, she never forgot about her days as a teacher at Bradley or her many wonderful students. Full Story > |
