The Campaign for a Bradley Renaissance

The Peoria adventure

National Geographic Adventure magazine selected Peoria as one of its 50 next great American adventure towns in which to live and relax. The September 2008 issue cited Peoria’s growing number of mountain biking trails surrounding the city and its nightlife offerings, including live music, at a revamped riverfront in picking Peoria, the only Illinois city on the list.

The nationwide list looked at “innovative towns that aren't just prime relocation spots now, but also smart choices for the future” and for areas offering activities for outdoor enthusiasts but were also considered to be up-and-coming.

While mentioning “Peoria” and “mountains” in the same breath may draw a confused look, more than 100 miles of forest-lined biking trails in the area are maintained by the Peoria Area Mountain Biking Association. Many miles can be found in parks like Jubilee College State Park, Black Partridge Park, and Dirksen Park, the bluffs and hills along the Illinois River are a favorite for many enthusiasts.
