Trinity College Class & Tour of Dublin

By David Watts ’10

Today was a great summer day in Dublin.  It was sunny and 65 with not a cloud in sight. Our Professor, Dr. Demetrice Worley, and our class headed to Trinity College bright and early to see the college and, of course, the Book of Kells. When we entered Trinity College, we bought our tickets and meandered through the Book of Kells exhibit. The book is an extraordinary piece of Irish history and art dating back to the years of St. Patrick. After seeing the book, we  toured Trinity College. Needless to say, Trinity is a beautiful campus. The detail used in the construction of the buildings and the layout of the yards makes for an astonishing college campus. After our short tour around campus, the Bradley class parted ways in all directions throughout the city.

We headed to the world famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral; however, along the way we happened to walk directly past Dublin Castle, where we decided to stop for a few photos and a short tour. After our brief stop at the castle, we moved on to our anticipated stop, St. Patrick’s Cathedral. World famous for its size and beauty, it is truly a treasure and well worth visiting. Inside the cathedral is a tremendous amount of history. Flags, statues, and graves, are only a few examples of the many treasures and historical items found within its walls.

Moving on from the cathedral, we headed down the street towards Leo Burdock’s. Leo’s is arguably the most famous fish and chips stop in Dublin, known for large portions and for having served world famous celebrities. After ordering the traditional fish and chips, we crossed the street and sat on Christ Church Cathedral’s lawn to enjoy our enormous meal. Even though neither of us could finish our fish, we packed up our belongings and headed back to the hotel after spending a wonderful day abroad in Dublin, Ireland.
