As the NAFTA Trade Specialist for the Illinois SBDC International Trade
Center/NAFTA Opportunity Center at Bradley University, Mr.
Cambas coordinates a program of counseling and training for
current and future exporters to Canada and Mexico.
Anthony Cambas joined the NAFTA Opportunity Center (NOC) from Miami, FL in January 2006. Mr. Cambas is a licensed Customs Broker, previously worked with U.S. Customs, and has nearly 20 years of trade experience in international trade in both the private and public sectors.
Mr. Cambas received a BA with high honors in International Relations from Florida International University in Miami, FL with a focus on Latin American studies. He was awarded study abroad scholarships in France, Italy and in Costa Rica. Anthony is fluent in Spanish and is proficient in French, Italian, and Portuguese and has academic, professional and personal travel experience in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and all three countries of North America (Canada, US, and Mexico).
Anthony was employed between 1988 through 1991 as an export manager by Latin American companies based in Miami to expand their exports to other countries in the hemisphere.
From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Cambas was employed by the US Customs Service in Miami as an Import Specialist and reached the position of Import Specialist Team leader. As an Import Specialist, Anthony specialized in Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification, Customs Valuation, Rules of Origin, Free Trade Agreements, NAFTA Verifications, and Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Enforcement. While with US Customs, Mr. Cambas was chosen to work at the NAFTA center in Dallas, Texas as well as to provide government-to-government technical training in Honduras and Venezuela.
From 1999 to 2005 Anthony worked in the private sector in International Trade including stints in Customs automation with Editrade and in competitive trade intelligence based on import and export manifest information with PIERS.
Since 2004 Mr. Cambas worked on programs with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on a variety of trade and Customs modernization projects in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Nepal. Mr. Cambas has recently provided technical assistance and training to the CAFTA Customs authorities onsite in Central America.
