ITC Holds Seminar on Iraq Reconstruction
by Dave Williams, International Trade Specialist
With the defeat of Saddam Hussein's government, Iraq is open for U.S. Business for the first time in over a decade. While security concerns and a lack of commercial infrastructure are significant challenges, U.S. government and other funding is flowing into Iraq for reconstruction efforts. American firms are well positioned to take advantage of opportunities that stem from these projects.
On July 24, 2003, thirty-six interested business people attended the seminar on "Business Opportunities in the Reconstruction of Iraq" in the Michel Student Center at Bradley University. Presentations were made by Dave Williams, International Trade Specialist at the International Trade Center at Bradley University, Susan Gorman, Director of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) at Illinois Central College, and Shari Stout, International Trade Specialist with the Peoria US Export Assistance Center (Department of Commerce).
The two and a half hour breakfast seminar covered the current situation in Iraq, challenges and barriers to doing business in Iraq, funding sources for projects in Iraq, opportunities for business in Iraq, how to do business with Iraq, and resources available to businesses focused on Iraq.
For more information on this seminar including a copy of the presentation or on how to do business with Iraq, please contact Dave Williams, International Trade Specialist, International Trade Center at (309) 677-3075 or send him an email.
