SBDC to Present Business Startup Workshop on CD-ROM Sponsored by Commerce Bank

by Ken Klotz, Director, Small Business Development Center
Spring 2003

Every two weeks, the Small Business Development Center presents a workshop entitled "Starting Your Own Business", aimed at providing startup guidance to those who have never owned a business. Approximately 200 people attend the sessions each year. The sponsor of the 2003 workshops is Commerce Bank. Topics covered in this workshop include the following:

Often however, individuals who would like to obtain business startup information, are unable to attended a scheduled workshop due to work or home scheduling conflicts, childcare responsibilities or distance from campus. The Bradley SBDC has created a solution for those individuals unable to attend a workshop on the Bradley University campus.

Beginning in March 2003, persons looking to start a business will be able to obtain their choice of a VCR tape or CD-ROM containing the two-hour "Starting Your Own Business" workshop. Utilizing the equipment and guidance of Bradley's Department of Instructional Technology and Production Services, the SBDC will be able to offer a "studio quality" production. Content will include a video/audio presentation using Powerpoint software and seminar "handouts" in "pdf" format. The VCR and CD-ROM mediums will allow clients to access training without concerns over bandwidth limitations.

Future SBDC plans include additional seminar topics utilizing the same delivery mediums. Eventually, plans are to provide training seminars via the Internet. For further information, contact the SBDC at (309) 677-2992.
