- On the SPSS download page, click-on PD36STA
- Follow the directions on the download page for unzipping the file and opening it in SPSS
Step 2 Generate Bivariate Correlations & Multivariate Linear Regression Statistics
The home work assignment tests the model that the rate of litigation in a state is the sum of the direct, positive effects of
(1) wealth and (2) availability of lawyers. Wealth is measured by 1983 Per Capita Personal income and this should
always be positively related the litigation rate. Availability of lawyers is measured by the 1980 Population Per Lawyer
which should always be negatively related to the litigation rate.Use the following variables
V15 1984 Litigation Cases Rate per 100,000
V100 1980 Population per Lawyer
V12 1983 Per Capita Personal Income
- The following steps generates the bivariate correlations and the multiple regression statistics .
- Select in sequence: Analyze, Regression, Linear
- Make 1984 Litigation Cases Rate per 100,000 the dependent variable and enter both 1980 Population per Lawyer and 1983 Per Capita Personal Income as the independent variables
- Select in sequence: Statistics, Descriptives, and Continue (This will produce the bivariate correlations)
- Click OK and the regression output should now be in the output window
- Print the output window and then close it
