Vienna: ‘Spring Break of a Lifetime’

Drs. Kyle Dzapo and Timothy Conley led 24 Honors Program students on the program’s first Study Abroad trip to Vienna over Spring Break. The students, all enrolled in music appreciation or modern Austrian fiction classes, attended concert performances and visited sites connected with their studies. Highlights of the eight-day trip included museum tours, viewing performances at the world-famous Staatsoper, Musikverein and Volksoper, and visits to the Vienna locales of several novels. Students contributed to an online daily journal, noting trips to the tight streets of the Naschmarkt to sample local delicacies, gazing down from the balcony of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and listening to a street performer play an accordion at the War Memorial for Russian Soldiers. One student called the Vienna trip, which Dzapo said will be offered again in the spring of 2016, “the Spring Break of a lifetime.”
