Expo Info for Faculty Mentors

A hallmark of a Bradley University education is the meaningful engagement of students in research, scholarship, and creative production. THANK YOU for mentoring and advising students in your area in such projects, and for encouraging them to share their work as presenters in the Student Scholarship Expo.

In addition to serving as a faculty mentor for a student presentation, there are many other ways to become involved in the 2017 Student Scholarship Expo:

  1. REGISTER TO SERVE AS A JUDGE. We hope to have at least ONE Bradley Faculty Member serving on each judging team. This ensures that guest judges have an informed Bradley representative who can share more about the academic culture at Bradley University, and perhaps remind the team that expert evaluation of projects is left to the faculty mentors, and that students' poster organization and presentation skills are the focus of evaluation at EXPO.
  2. SIGN-UP TO SERVE AS A MOCK JUDGE. We understand that not everyone can make it to the regular judging period on Wednesday, April 12th. Instead, consider sign-up to join us for the Poster Set-up, Practice, and Pizza session in the Coliseum on Tuesday, the 11th from 5 to 7 p.m. You will be assigned student projects to mock-judge, and could make a huge difference for students in offering guidance and suggestions on fine tuning their presentations before the judging period the next day.
  3. HELP RECRUIT JUDGES. Finding qualified judges with a working generalist knowledge of disciplinary areas in which students present is always a challenge. Please reach out to your collaborators, colleagues, and community connections to let them know about this opportunity to see the work of our students while giving the students a chance to practice their presentation skills. If someone notes that you referred them or invited them to judge at EXPO, we will send you a small token of appreciation from OSP to thank you for your help in recruiting judges.
  4. INVITE US TO SHARE ABOUT EXPO for 5 MINUTES IN YOUR CLASS. We are happy to come and give a brief, 5-10 minute overview of EXPO to your class or student group, and to answer any questions students may have about participating. Just e-mail us at osp@bradley.edu and let us know when you would like us to come.
  5. SHARE IDEAS AND FEEDBACK. The Student Scholarship Expo is shaped and guided through our EXPO Advisory Board. Please click on the link to the left to see who serves on the Board from your area, and share your ideas and feedback about EXPO with them so that we may continue to improve on the event.
  6. ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS to start thinking now about EXPO. Remind them to visit the EXPO student information page that includes tips and guidance for getting started now, including links to award-winning posters from last year, resources for planning and organizing a poster presentation, and instructions on how to get a full-color EXPO poster professionally printed by CityBlue Technologies, Inc. for just $18.

And, of course, ASK US YOUR QUESTIONS by sending them to osp@bradley.edu. We're happy to share more about EXPO at any time.
