Since graduating in 1993, Bradley Alumni Amro Salama has gone from screen to stage, and in January of this year, to the Red Carpet.
The actor walked down the Los Angeles red carpet during the world premiere of the Showtime television show, The Chi, in which he plays a recurring role.
The show, created by Emmy winner Lena Waithe, follows six interrelated characters as they struggle to come to age in South Side Chicago. Salama plays the secondary character of Habib, the owner of a convenient store, who is constantly caught up in the local drama. The actor is looking forward to not only the role, but also its potential impact and message.
“I love what Waithe has written for my character. Through [her] writing, we humanize a population that has long been marginalized. Habib is an immigrant trying to live the American Dream and simply do better for his family. It is a pure joy to play him and I am very excited about finally sharing his unique journey this first season,” he said.
Before landing the recent role, Salama has been a part of a number of productions from New York, to Chicago, and to Los Angeles. The actor worked opposite Denzel Washington and Annette Bening in the film The Siege. His T.V credits include Modern Family, Chicago PD, Suite Life on Deck, Law and Order, and Shameless. He’s also been in multiple theatre productions, including Yasmina’s Necklace at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago this past fall.
With all his success, Salama is able to look back at his experience at Bradley as a launching pad for his career, giving him the encouragement he needed to pursue his passion.
