Dr. Peggy Flannigan is Interim Associate Dean for Distance Education and a faculty member in the Department of Nursing. She teaches DNP Project courses and Legal and Ethical Issues in Nursing. She has also taught courses in Nursing Research and Nursing Education to graduate students. In addition, she has guided multiple graduate student research projects. At the undergraduate level, she has taught research and both medical surgical and leadership theory and practicum courses for students in their senior year.
Dr. Flannigan joined the Bradley faculty in 1996. Prior to that time she was employed in a variety of settings, including acute care, neuro rehabilitation, and physicians’ offices, and she served as a nursing education administrator. Dr. Flannigan has recently been involved in planning courses for online education and enjoys using a variety of methods in the classroom ranging from the traditional lecture to interactive learning via seminar/discussion and group activities.
Dr. Flannigan’s personal research interests include return-to-play decisions following brain trauma in the athlete, decision-making capacity and surrogate decision-making in the older population, integrating E-books into the curriculum, and most recently, while working with a graduate student, generational diversity in the workplace.
Dr. Flannigan provides service to the Department of Nursing, the EHS College, and the University through several activities. The most recent of these activities was leadership of the accreditation team. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses. She has served Epsilon Epsilon Chapter as its Secretary and President. She is President of the Executive Board and Chair of the Mark Linder Walk for the Mind, an organization to bring awareness to and funding for brain tumor research. In addition, Dr. Flannigan is a member of the Tazewell County Board of Health, serves on the Tazewell County Breast and Cervical Cancer Coalition, Tazewell County Free Mammogram Day Planning Committee, and as a member of the Tremont United Methodist Church, she serves on various committees of the church.
