The Bandit: A Functional Bracelet on the Rise

By Ruth Bertram, Journalism Intern, Turner Center for Entrepreneurship, Bradley University

From teaching herself how to sew on her grandmothers sewing machine, to owning her own small business, Sydney Frietsch is going above and beyond to make her dreams come true with her company Ring Bandits.

Ring Bandits was founded in 2015 and focuses on selling their product, the Bandit & athleisure wear.

The Bandit is a stylish, functional accessory with a hidden zipper pocket that is able to hold rings, earrings, medication, other jewelry, keys, or other small objects that one would like on them at all times. The product is designed to withstand a number of physical activities, such as workouts, swimming, and gardening or on the job. However, individuals can also wear the band as a fashion item, or simply just for fun.

The Bandit was debuted at two major athletic events, the Pensacola Beach Brawl and the Arnolds Sports Festival. As a result of the product's popularity, Frietsch decided to expand their market and become a presence within social media. Frietsch attributes some of her biggest publicity success to Instagram Influencers, especially Julia Bauer Roth, an Instagram user with over 330K followers who featured the Bandit on her profile.

Once Frietsch established a manufacturer, she began working with the Illinois Small Business Development Center [SBDC]. She states that the SBDC advisors were a tremendous help as they assisted her with many different business aspects such as creating a business model and networking.

After working alongside the SBDC advisors, Frietsch decided to enter Bradley University's Brave Launch Business Accelerator Program in 2017 and was awarded the Best Business Model.

When looking back on Brave Launch, she explained that she thoroughly enjoyed her time spent there and claims that one of the most memorable parts was finding Bandit’s value proposition and targeting customers.

Her advice to future entrepreneurs is to always have a positive mindset and to believe in themselves.

“Have faith in what you are capable of doing, be the best you can be” said Frietsch.
