Young Couple Strives to Make a Difference in the Chiropractic Industry

By Ruth Bertram, Journalism Intern, Turner Center for Entrepreneurship, Bradley University

With humble hearts and a life goal of helping people find physical and emotional peace in their lives, the married couple and licensed primary care physicians Dr. Christine Haynes and Dr. Kyle Haynes are helping individuals live a healthier lifestyle one appointment at a time.

They were both introduced to Chiropractic care after experiencing sports injuries.  The care they received drastically changed their lives for the better.  So, they decided to pursue a career within the industry in hopes to help people heal without the use of drugs or surgery.

Dr. Christine and Dr. Kyle met in school at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa while studying to become Doctors of Chiropractic. The two interned at different Chiropractic offices in Missoula, Montana and stayed for a few years to refine their newly learned skills.

According to the couple, they always had a dream of owning their own clinic.  They would spend time after work in their backyard laying out their office floor plan with sticks and strings in order to make it exactly what they envisioned and financially doable.  With hopes of living closer to family and friends, the Haynes decided to move back to Kyle's hometown of Peoria to start their own clinic called Haynes Family Chiropractic.  Their practice specializes in Blair Upper Cervical, pediatric, and whole body chiropractic.  Blair Upper Cervical chiropractic focuses on the upper neck misalignments, called subluxations, that can alter the function of the nervous system and therefore affect your health.

While opening their business, they reached out to the Illinois Small Business Development Center [SBDC] and worked alongside, then Director, Ross Miller.  According to the Haynes, Miller was able to review and refine their business plan in order to help bring their dream to life.  With his help, they made more connections with local banks that they needed to start Haynes Family Chiropractic.

As a married couple, the Haynes explain that they thoroughly enjoy working together and feel that they are able to make the perfect team to face the challenges of owning a small business.

“Our strengths are the other person's weakness,” said Dr. Christine while explaining her work relationship with her husband.

The Haynes advice to future entrepreneurs is to make it a priority to make sure you have a healthy work-life balance and to live a simple life when financially planning for your business.

“Everything doesn’t have to be perfect in your office, it can grow with you,” said Dr. Christine.

“For us, experiences are more important than things,” said Dr. Kyle.

For the future, Dr. Kyle and Dr. Christine plan to continue learning about the human body and health in order to help their clients live vibrant lives.  Their business continues to grow and just celebrated its 4th anniversary of business in Peoria, IL.
