What is the purpose of the Bradley Summer Piano Camp?

This camp is an intensive and enjoyable piano program for middle school and high school students, ages 11 - 18, who are interested in enhancing their ongoing piano experience. Students will continue to develop their pianistic abilities and enrich their musical experiences by attending a variety of courses in keyboard musicianship, music history, jazz improvisation, and music composition. Social activities will add to the enjoyment of the camp. A final recital in Dingeldine Music Center will feature solo and ensemble performance by the participants.

My child is is a beginner and has had only about a year of piano lessons. Should we apply?

We work with your student regardless of skill level.

Will my student be required to audition or to memorize any material for an audition?

On the first day of camp, students will be asked to perform pieces they are currently studying with their private teachers. The purpose of the audition is for the faculty to understand the student's performance level and then assign appropriate solo and ensemble works.

What is the typical schedule of the program?

Students will have lessons and practice times every morning and afternoon, but each day will also include additional activities. Mornings will include special lectures and musicianship classes. Afternoons will include sports activities, campus field trips, faculty recital, and the students' recital.

Where will the camp be held?

The Bradley Summer Piano Camp will be held in Constance Hall at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

The camp recital will be held in Dingeldine Music Center at Bradley University.

What are the attendance policies?

Each day is precious for students to make progress, and we prefer students not miss any day. We understand you student may need to be absent for a few hours due to other appointments, which we are happy to discuss in advance.

Do you have a code of conduct for participants in the Bradley Summer Piano Camp?

Staff of the Bradley Summer Piano Camp believe students learn best in an atmosphere of respect for the teacher and each other. Students who choose to behave in ways that interfere with other students’ opportunities to learn, and/or the instructors’ opportunities to teach, forfeit their own opportunity to participate in the Bradley Summer Piano Camp. We reserve the right to dismiss students from the camp for such reasons. In these cases, no refunds will be given. Family support and cooperation with this matter is appreciated.

What are the meal arrangements?

Daily lunches will be available in a campus cafeteria and will include vegetarian options. On Thursday, a Jimmy John's boxed lunch will be provided. If your student has special dietary requirements (e.g. gluten free), please indicate this preference on the registration form. All meals are included in the registration fee.

When is the camp recital?

On Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., the Bradley Summer Piano Camp recital will be held at Dingeldine Music Center, 1417 W. Barker Ave. on Bradley’s campus. It will feature solo and ensemble performances by all the students and is free and open to the public.

Am I required to perform at the recital?

We encourage all the students to participate in the recital so that they can become comfortable performing on stage. Our students look forward to their performance by the end of the camp and understand that performance is one of the most important parts of the learning process.

What should I wear to camp?

Plan to wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease in playing the piano and enjoying light recreation. A camp t-shirt is included in the registration fee.

What is the cancellation policy?

Any registrants submitting a written cancellation by June 15, 2022, will forfeit their deposit but will be granted a refund for any paid balance to date.

No refunds will be issued after June 15, 2022.

If the Code of Conduct is violated by a participant, no refund will be issued.

Where can I park?

During this program, attendees may park on campus in any blue- or white-lined space.

What if I’m concerned about the weather?

n the event of inclement weather, the Bradley Summer Piano Camp will follow Bradley University’s decision on closing. To confirm weather-related closings at Bradley, check local media, call the BU Hotline at (309) 677-4000, or visit the Bradley University website. While K-12 schools may close due to inclement weather, Bradley University usually stays open.
