From the Chair

Welcome to the Art Department at Bradley University. Our comprehensive studio and art history program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and is known for excellence in both traditional media and new technologies. The BA/BS degree programs combine a creative and exciting career orientation with a sound liberal arts education. The BFA program is a selective studio-intensive program that prepares students for entry to graduate school or to professional practice. Our Master of Fine Arts is the only terminal academic degree program on campus and is indicative of Bradley's commitment to the Arts. The curriculum and the faculty nurture the fine arts in a wide variety of visual art media.  We are dedicated to academic excellence with through studio expertise, collaboration and visual research within an atmosphere of creative freedom.  Through a balanced and consistent student/instructor relationship, coupled with traditional and advanced technology, students are assisted in realizing their goals as aspiring professional artists.

The Art Department is housed in the 33,000 sq. ft. Heuser Art Center that is equipped with high-speed wireless internet and state of the art studios in Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking, Bookarts Drawing, Photography, Graphic Design and a nationally recognized exhibitions program. The department also houses Cradle Oak Press, and the Inland Visual Studies Center, collaborative ventures that bring renowned artists to Bradley to work together with students and faculty.

Our students are trained to recognize the significance of tradition as well as critical art discourse upon their identities as artists and designers. We also pay tribute to the history of visual culture in the central portion of the United States and the contribution that urban, suburban and rural art production has made on national and global art.
