From the Chair

Gary WillWelcome to the Art Department at Bradley University. Our comprehensive studio and art history program is one of only 350 accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and is recognized for excellence in both traditional media and new technologies. Students on the BA, BS, or BFA degree tracks, as well as graduate students on our Master of Fine Arts program - which is the only terminal academic degree on campus - are entering an exciting, creative journey, alongside a sound liberal arts education.

The curriculum and the faculty nurture the fine arts in a wide variety of visual art and design media.  We are dedicated to academic excellence with thorough studio expertise, collaboration and visual research within an atmosphere of creative freedom.  Through a balanced and consistent student/instructor relationship, coupled with traditional and advanced technology, our studio art program successfully prepares you for a career as a professional studio artist or designer or to continue your studies at graduate school.

In recent years, almost all students have found employment or continued their education within six months of graduating from Bradley University, working at a range of companies around the country such as The Chicago Bears, Brand Muscle and BBDO in Chicago, Charming Robot in New York, Roundhouse in Portland, and even as far away as Tokyo, Japan and Auckland, New Zealand. Others have attended graduate school at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ohio State University, West Virginia University and Rhode Island School of Design. Many of our MFA students have gone on to work at prestigious companies such as The Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis, Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital company, in New Zealand, or have entered teaching careers at institutes such as West Virginia University, SUNY Purchase, Emporia State University, The South Carolina School of the Arts, and Texas Christian University.

The Bradley University Art Department is housed in the 33,000 sq. ft. Heuser Art Center. Equipped with high-speed wireless internet and purpose built studio spaces for Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking, Book arts, Drawing, and Photography, while the Graphic Design program operates out of the impressive, state of the art, Caterpillar Global Communications Center. Alongside a nationally recognized exhibitions program, including the country's second oldest juried printing and drawing show - 'The Bradley International', the department also houses both Cradle Oak Press and the Gold Quoin Press, and is the administrative base for the Inland Visual Studies Center and Illinois Woman Artists Project - all collaborative ventures that bring renowned artists to Bradley to work together with students and faculty throughout the year.

If you are considering the next step in your art and design education, whether at undergraduate or graduate level, then please take some time to review what we have to offer at Bradley University. As a NASAD accredited school of excellence, you will receive a thorough learning experience in the arts, founded on strong core studies, dynamic and varied studio courses, taught within a professional and intimate environment by a faculty, each excelling in their own areas of study. And, if you have already chosen the Bradley University Art and Design program as that next step… then WELCOME, and I look forward to seeing each and every one of you on campus!
