Rivermen Hire Alan Fuehring '12 as New Play-by-Play Voice
September 17, 2013
The Peoria Rivermen have a new broadcast voice as they head into a new league for the 2013-14 season.
The Southern Professional Hockey League team hired Morton native and Bradley University grad Alan Fuehring on Monday as its new play-by-play voice and media relations director.
Fuehring is no stranger to the 31-year Rivermen franchise. He was a key intern for the then-AHL club from 2009-2013. Fuerhing filled in several times in the AHL as Rivermen play-by-play voice, put together pre-game notes packages and ran the press box.
"The Rivermen are a team I know really well," Fuehring said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to come back to a place that I know very well and I'm excited to serve the fans and community.
"I'm anxious to get this season started, and get this part of my life started, too.
"I had the opportunity to do games here in the past and those chances helped prepare me for this. My goal now is to go knock it out of the park."
Fuehring, 23, graduated from Bradley in 2012 with a degree in sports communication.
He hosted a 20-minute pre-game show for the Midwest League's Peoria Chiefs in 2011. In 2012 he worked for KABC-TV in Los Angeles, obtaining soundbites from athletes and coaches after games and practices.
Fuehring worked as a broadcast assistant in the AHL for the Charlotte Checkers, handling intermission and post-game shows for selected games.
He went on in 2012 and 2013 to produce video packages on FOX SPEED Channel for NASCAR Race Hub and SPEED Center.
"Alan is a young, up-and-coming talent, just like the players in this league," Rivermen co-owner Bart Rogers said. "He has a wide range of experience, and that includes working with broadcasters, coaches, players and media who have had NHL experience.
"He knows and respects the Rivermen tradition and history, and the fans are going to love him.
"We're proud to have him join us.
