BUCAN (Bradley University Communication Alumni Network)

President: Michelle DeSantis ('89)

Michelle DeSantis just completed training to become 6 Sigma Black Belt with Caterpillar Inc. Electric Power Division. Utilizing 6 Sigma methodologies, Michelle will work to improve processes within various groups of the division. Previously, Michelle managed the development of an on-line learning campus along with 25 web-based training courses for the Electric Power Division. After graduating from Bradley University in 1989, Michelle worked at WMBD-TV and Ross Creative+Strategy, before joining Caterpillar in 2005 as a Marketing Consultant.

Vice President: Kelly Kolton ('05)

A graphic designer for the law firm of Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen, Kelly is originally from the Chicagoland area and majored in graphic design. While at Bradley, she worked for Bradley Hilltopics, University Publications, and the Bradley Scout. While working on the Scout, Kelly won awards from the Illinois College Press Association for her work in visual journalism. In addition to her academics at Bradley, Kelly participated in the Department of Communication's exchange with Slovenia in its second year in 2004. Her collaboration with other students to create a website about the Slovenian exchange won them First Place in the Communications Division of the 2004 Annual Student Scholarship Exposition, sponsored by the Office for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development. In 2005, Kelly and her peers won the same prize for a magazine prototype developed during the COM 340 Magazine Production class.

Secretary: Chris Kaergard ('04)

Chris is the deputy opinion editor at the (Peoria) Journal Star, a position that includes writing editorials on local, state and national issues for the paper as well as editing letters to the editor. Prior to assuming the post in 2008, Chris worked as a copy editor, worked as a weekend city desk swing editor and produced the paper's Election 2008 video coverage. He also covered the Illinois Statehouse for the Rockford Register-Star while getting a master's degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois-Springfield. Though a history major at Bradley, Chris served as editor of the Bradley Scout, guiding the publication to a school-record number of awards from the Illinois College Press Association during his tenure. He participated in the initial two sessions of the Department of Communication's annual exchange with Slovenian journalism students in 2003 and 2004, and since then, Chris has continued to assist in hosting groups visiting Peoria from Slovenia.

BFAN (Bradley University Forensic Alumni Network)

BFAN, the Bradley University Forensic Affinity Network, was established to provide an affiliation with Bradley forensic alumni. BFAN strengthens Bradley University by connecting forensics alumni, coaches and supporters back to each other, to the forensics program, and to the University.
