Herbert Kasube

Biography

Herb Kasube has taught many different mathematics, but his favorite is the history of mathematics. He will incorporate historical topics within all courses he teaches. A student learns the mathematics better when they have an appreciation for the genesis of the topic and the people who were involved in its development. Herb hopes that his enthusiasm for mathematics carries over to his students. His summers have often been spent traveling to countries such as England, Russia, Germany, Egypt and Peru to study the history of the mathematics of the region.

Scholarship

While my Ph.D. dissertation was in algebraic number theory, my current interests lie in the history of mathematics.

Service

Served on various University committees including chair of the Academic Review Board. Service to the Mathematical Association of America has included member of the Board of Governors, Chair of the Illinois Section (ISMAA), Council on the Profession, Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics (CUPM), Committee on Curriculum Reform and the First Two Years (CRAFTY), Recipient of Distinguished Service Award from ISMAA and Certificate of Meritorious Service from MAA. Has also served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM). Is currently faculty advisor for Bradley University’s Circle K Club.
