The purpose of the graduate program is to educate the professional nurse for advanced nursing practice in hospitals, clinics, community health settings, long-term care facilities, and other health-related agencies. The curriculum provides a foundation for further doctoral study.

Bradley University offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and a Post-Masters Certificate. Programs of study include: MSN Nursing Administration, MSN Nursing Education, *MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), *DNP FNP, *DNP Leadership, Post-Masters Certificate in Nursing Education, and *Post Masters FNP Certificate. Graduation requirements must be fulfilled within five years of enrollment for the MSN programs and within seven years of enrollment for the DNP programs.

The student must maintain an academic average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) and earn a grade of "B" or better in all NUR courses and a “C” or better in all other coursework applied toward graduation requirements.

Program Descriptions

MSN Nursing Education

This 33 semester hour program prepares graduates to meet the minimum State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act requirements for teaching. Students complete 300 hours of practicum with a nurse educator preceptor in academic and healthcare agency/institution settings. Graduates with a major in nursing education are prepared to meet the minimum State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act requirements for teaching nursing, and for future doctoral study. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National League for Nursing (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) exam.

Certificate in Nursing Education

The 15-semester hour certificate is designed for licensed registered nurses who have an earned MSN. This certificate program prepares nurse educators at the master’s level to meet the minimum State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act requirements. Students complete 300 hours of practicum with a nurse educator preceptor in academic and healthcare agency/institution settings. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National League for Nursing (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) exam.

MSN Nursing Administration (online)

This 30 (BSN entry) - 39 (ADN/Diploma/RN with a Non-nursing Baccalaureate Entry) semester hour program prepares graduates for first line management as executives in a variety of health care settings. Students complete 300 hours of practicum with a nurse manager/executive preceptor. Graduates with a major in nursing administration are prepared for first line management as executives in a variety of health care settings, and for future doctoral study. With the required work experience, graduates are prepared for the various nurse executive or leader certifications offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).

MSN FNP (online)

This 47 (BSN entry) - 59 (ADN/Diploma/RN with a Non-nursing Baccalaureate Entry) semester hour program track prepares students to be family nurse practitioners. Students complete a total of 700 hours of clinical practicum in various population-focused and/or specialty areas supervised by qualified preceptors (NTF Criterion). The goal of the program is to prepare program graduates for advanced practice with individuals and families throughout the lifespan and across the health continuum. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) credentialing examination for FNP. 

FNP Certificate (online)

This 26- 35-semester hour certificate is designed for licensed registered nurses with an earned MSN from an accredited nursing program. It includes the same FNP theory and practicum courses as the MSN FNP program. FNP Certificate students will complete a total of 700 hours of clinical in various population-focused and/or specialty areas supervised by qualified preceptors (NTF Criterion). The goal of the program is to prepare students for advanced practice with individuals and families throughout the lifespan and across the health continuum. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) credentialing examination for FNP.

DNP FNP (online)

This 74-semester hour program provides the opportunity for licensed registered nurses who hold a BSN to become family nurse practitioners at the doctoral level. The goal of the program is to prepare program majors for advanced practice with individuals and families throughout the lifespan and across the health continuum. Students complete a total of 1000 hours of clinical in various population-focused and/or specialty areas supervised by qualified preceptors. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) credentialing examination for FNP.

DNP Leadership (online)

This 39+ semester hour program provides the opportunity for licensed registered nurses who hold an earned MSN to complete instruction in advanced leadership theory and practicum to prepare for upper-level management positions in a variety of health care settings. Students complete 300 hours of practicum with a nurse manager/executive preceptor in the completion of their capstone project. They must complete additional clinical hours to total 1000 (AACN), including the number of clinical hours completed for their MSN degree. DNP Leadership graduates are prepared to sit for the various nurse executive or leader certifications offered by the ANCC or the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).

MSN Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) (online)

This (BSN) 48-semester hour program track prepares students to be psychiatric nurse practitioners. Students complete a total of 600 clinical practicum hours supervised by qualified preceptors. The goal of the program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing to all ages in various mental health organizations. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan) Certification (PMHNP-BC).

MSN Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) (online)

ADN/Diploma/RN with a non-nursing baccalaureate degree entry.

This 60-semester hour program track prepares students to be psychiatric nurse practitioners. Students complete a total of 600 clinical practicum hours supervised by qualified preceptors. The goal of the program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing to all ages in various mental health organizations. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan) Certification (PMHNP-BC)  

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification (PNP-C) (online)

This 27-36 semester hour certificate is designed for licensed registered nurses with an earned MSN from an accredited nursing program. Students complete a total of 600 clinical practicum hours supervised by qualified preceptors. The goal of the program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing to all ages in various mental health organizations. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan) Certification (PMHNP-BC)  

DNP Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) (online)

This (BSN entry) 75-semester hour program track prepares students to be psychiatric nurse practitioners at the doctoral level. Students complete a total of 600 clinical practicum hours supervised by qualified preceptors within a variety of mental health facilities across the lifespan. They must complete additional clinical hours to total 1000 (AACN) through doctoral project courses. The goal of the program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing to all ages in various mental health organizations. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan) Certification (PMHNP-BC).

Applicants must meet all admission requirements of the Graduate School. In addition the Department of Nursing requires:

MSN Nursing Education

1. Applicants must have a BSN degree from a CNEA, ACEN, or CCNE accredited nursing program. Nurses with a diploma or associate's degree (ADN) in nursing; or those with non-nursing baccalaureate degree must complete NUR 300, 303, 404, and 407 prior to enrollment in graduate level courses.
2. Proof of a current nursing license.
3. A nursing grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale.

Certificate in Nursing Education

1. Applicants must have an MSN degree from a CNEA, ACEN, or CCNE accredited nursing program.

1. Applicants must have an MSN degree from a CNEA, ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program. Those with a non-nursing master’s degree must possess a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a CNEA, ACEN, or CCNE accredited nursing program.
2. Proof of a current nursing license.
3. A nursing grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
4. Professional Portfolio
   The portfolio is to include a professional resume and documentation and description of supervised clinical clock hours in the master’s degree program.

*Applicants with deficiencies in the requirements will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Capstone Project in Nursing

Students in the  MSN Nursing Administration, MSN Nursing Education and the DNP programs meet program requirements by completing a scholarly project in nursing.

Comprehensive Assessment

All students are required to take a comprehensive assessment prior to graduation with the exception of
