Ready for Anything
The degree enhances your knowledge of writing theory and communication practices. You tailor the degree to your career interests by choosing a literature or writing emphasis. Both programs require you to complete an internship, portfolio and comprehensive final exam. You can complete the degree in three semesters, though you have five years to finish it.
Making your Mark
With a graduate degree in English, you have additional knowledge and skills to become a master educator or writer. Many K-12 teachers pursue the degree to strengthen their subject matter knowledge. In recent years, most graduates found jobs or pursued doctorates within six months of graduation. They’re teaching in central Illinois school districts, working for employers such as Caterpillar Inc. or completing doctorates at institutions such as Creighton University, University of Illinois and Ohio State University.
