The Degree
Bradley’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Family and Consumer Sciences. The program offers a flexible curriculum for students who have special interests in areas such as:

  • food
  • nutrition
  • apparel
  • textiles
  • interior design
  • family and child development

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences chooses two freshmen each year to become the “Mildred Arnold Scholar” and the “C.C. Wheeler Scholar.” These $4,000 scholarships are renewed annually for up to four years providing the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 and completes the scholarship requirements.

As continuing FCS majors, upperclassmen are eligible to apply for several scholarships for up to $3,000 per year. These scholarships have been established through the generous donations of our alumnae.

Students in Bradley’s Family and Consumer Sciences program work directly with faculty who create a close-knit community by being dedicated teachers, mentors, and advisors. They have published in national journals including the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Journal of Nutrition for the Elderly. Faculty members have presented research (often with the help of students) at the International Academy of Nutrition and Aging in New Mexico and at the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences annual meeting.

Opportunities at Bradley
Students interact closely with faculty and gain experience through relevant research projects, often participating in the annual student research and creative achievement exhibition.

Outside the classroom, Bradley Family and Consumer Sciences majors participate in cocurricular and cooperative learning experiences including off-site study in Europe, Chicago, and New York. Students can participate in the Bradley University Fashion Focus organization, Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society, Bradley Student Dietetic Association and the Bradley Hospitality Association.

Beyond Bradley
In recent years, Family and Consumer Sciences graduates have enjoyed a placement rate as high as 100 percent. Bradley alumni have held or currently pursued careers such as consumer education teachers, health promotion flight commander at the Health and Wellness Center at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and exercise consultant at Millennium Health and Fitness Club. They have worked as nutrition and fitness editors, in marketing principles at Kraft Foods, and as an interior stylist in visual merchandising at Nordstrom’s Oak Brook store. Graduates have continued their education at:
