The Degree
Bradley’s Department of Music offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Music in Composition. Music at Bradley involves a combination of technology and tradition to prepare students for careers as teachers, composers, performers, or executives in the music industry. All applicants audition on their primary instrument or voice to gain entrance into the program. The audition is required both to determine acceptance into a degree program and for the consideration of talent scholarships. The music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). In January 2001, the Music Department was honored with the prestigious Helen Bartlett Award for Excellence in Service to Students.

The Department of Music offers a number of scholarships, grants, and awards designated for incoming students who choose to major in music. Talent awards range from $100 to $4,000 and are allocated by the Department of Music through the audition process. Students who receive these awards must remain a music major, maintain a specified GPA, and participate in a major performing ensemble each semester. Band, Choir, and Orchestra scholarships are also available to all students at Bradley University, regardless of major. These awards range from $200 to $500 per year. Participation in an assigned ensemble is required.
