Diversity and Inclusion

Welcome to the office of Diversity and Inclusion

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) was established to advance Bradley University's commitment to diversity, and enhance underrepresented students access and success at the university. It is our aim to foster a campus community that seeks to provide a climate that is supportive, inclusive, and appreciative of diversity and all of its benefits. ODI strives to achieve this through our annual programs, diversity awareness outreach, and student support initiatives.

Sign up for this year's TUNNEL of oppression: November 7-9th, Student Center Ballroom

Dates: November 7th 11-6pm, November 8th 11-6pm, November 9th 11-6pm

What is the Tunnel of Oppression? The Tunnel of Oppression (TOO) is an interactive, tour guided event that highlights contemporary issues of oppression in a creative and realistic avenue. It is designed to introduce participants to the concepts of oppression, privilege, and power by guiding them through a series of "tunnels" or spaces designed by members of the designated identities.

Why should you sign up? TOO will benefit you by exposing you to the experiences of marginalized communities in an informative, interactive, and engaging way. Employers, graduate schools, and society as a whole has placed tremendous value in citizens who are culturally competent and aware. TOO will serve as an outstanding and educational opportunity for you to explore the importance and significance of differences, and how these differences impact you.

How do I sign up? If you want to experience Tunnel as a group (as a class, with friends, or as a student organization), use the online registration process (click here or below). This electronic sign up system allows users to select the number of slots for a specific tour time. the limit is 25 students per tour. When signing up for a group please be sure to indicate the number of people that will go through the tour with your group at a specific time.

Do I have to sign up in advance to attend? We highly encourage individuals to sign up for a tour time in advance to avoid spaces being filled when you arrive. However, you are free to come without signing up in advance, but keep in mind spaces may be filled.

What topics will be discussed in TOO? While there are a great deal of pertinent topics related to the diversity, oppression, and society, this year's TOO will focus on the following areas/identities:

  • The experiences of people in the Transgender community
  • The experiences of African American women with law enforcement
  • The experiences of refugees and Latin@ immigrants and citizens
  • The rise in anti-Jewish threats and rhetoric
  • The realities of body image perceptions and judgement
  • The burden of student loan debt and higher education
  • The stigmatization of people with mental illnesses
  • The realities of sexual assault
  • Privilege, power, and oppression and how they relate to each citizen
