Elite Speakers

April 19, 2017

Bradley University’s speech team finished second at the National Forensic Association National Championship at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The team recorded three individual championships, with two from Jerome Gregory ’17 and one from Megan Magee ’19.

Justin Helmley, assistant director of forensics, credited the team’s success to the team’s balance of veteran and newer competitors.

“The pairing of young success with strong performances from our upperclass students made this second-place showing possible,” he said.

Speech team members were helped along the way by alumni who coached, encouraged and traveled with the team to nationals.

“None of this would be possible without our alumni,” said Forensics Director Ken Young. “Donations by our alumni made many of the logistics possible.”

While the speech team has finished its season as a team, Abby Surprenant ’17 will represent Illinois at the Interstate Oratory Contest in Lafayette, Louisiana April 21-22.
