Excellent Experiences

Bradley’s Springer Center for Internships has announced the Bradley University 2017 Outstanding Co-op/Intern of the Year Award winners. The recognition honored one student from each of university’s five academic colleges.

Over the past five years, Bradley graduates averaged a 93 percent career outcomes rate, which means those graduates found employment or continued their education within six months of graduation.  The career outcomes rate is bolstered by job-seekers’ experiential learning as students, with 96 percent of students participating in experiential learning projects and 83 percent completing internships while in school. Students who registered their internships with the Springer Center were eligible to apply for the award.

This year’s outstanding interns are:

Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology — Cody Gastel ‘18

Gastel, a civil engineering major from Carlock, Ill., spent his summer and fall interning for Farnsworth Group, a Peoria-based architecture and engineering firm. He explored a career interest in structural engineering through projects involving energy, transportation and water treatment infrastructure.

College of Education and Health Sciences — Nicholas Chovancek ‘18

Chovancek, a nursing major from Oak Lawn, Ill., spent a month at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital near Washington, D.C. through Army ROTC. He worked clinical rotations in the hospital’s intensive care, emergency and operating units.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences — Alex Stocker ‘19

Stocker, a computer game technology major from Naperville, Ill., interned for Bradley’s computer sciences and information systems department. The summer focused on research.

Foster College of Business — Sarah Bujold ‘18

Bujold, a social media marketing major from Lake Elmo, Minn., interned for Peoria-based Illinois Business Financial Services. She managed the organization’s social media and web content, and she produced a variety of print materials.

Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts — Austin Shone ‘18

Shone, a sports communication major from Grapevine, Texas, interned for the Los Angeles Dodgers and iHeart Media’s AM 570 through Bradley’s Hollywood Semester. He tracked and helped plan promotions for the Dodgers and assisted media during the team’s World Series run. As a radio intern, Shone assisted producers on two sports talk shows.
