Freshman Convocation for the Class of 2018 was a selfie-centered event for students, administration — and mascot Kaboom! As she welcomed the students, President Joanne Glasser snapped a selfie with Kaboom! and asked students to flood social media with convocation selfies.

Glasser lauded the class for its strong academic and social engagement profile, encouraging the students to take advantage of the University’s 240 student clubs and organizations.

“The numbers of activities, organizations and volunteer hours you’ve experienced as a group during high school is amazing,” she said. “I can’t wait to see how you’ll create, serve and innovate.”

Students saw a preview of the theatre department’s 2014 musical, “Spring Awakening.” The cast includes freshman music major Zach Olson, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, in a lead role. Student dance troupe Vitality also performed.

As Glasser requested, the #bradleyu and #bradley2018 hashtags filled a corner of the social media world by night’s end. Additionally, the bradley.univ Snapchat was revealed.

Bradley’s first music video, “One More Night in Peoria,” also was shown. Josiah Williams ’14 wrote and performed the song, which debuted on campus last fall.

Following Convocation, students congregated on Alumni Quad for an ice cream social.
