Department of Communication Sports New Concentration

The Department of Communication proudly announces the addition of its new concentration in Sports Communication.  The program, which responds to industry needs for professional communicators within the context of sports, will enroll approximately 50 majors when it rolls out its first offerings in the fall of 2009.  While sports communication has become the subject of increased scholarly attention, it remains a relatively unique curricular offering nationally.  The hiring of two new faculty members promises to bolster the program.  Ms. Angela Pratt  joins the department from the University of Tennessee, where she is completing her Ph.D.  Mr. Ricky Thein joins the faculty after spending 11 years as a sports reporter, photographer and anchor in Southern Illinois.  The department is excited to be on the cutting edge in developing this exciting new program.
