Haydn at the Cathedral
Haydn: Mass in Time of War; Mendelssohn: Psalm 42. Bradley Community Chorus and Symphony Orchestra
Sunday, November 19, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 607 N.E. Madison.
The Bradley Community Chorus and Symphony Orchestra will present Haydn’s Mass in Time of War and Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 on Sunday, November 19, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 607 N.E. Madison (corner of Madison and Green Streets) in Peoria.
Haydn wrote his Mass in Time of War in 1796 as Napoleon’s armies were closing in on Vienna, portrayed by dramatic trumpet calls and drum figures and an impassioned cry for peace in the closing movement. Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42, for soprano, chorus, and orchestra, is a moving description of the soul’s longing for resolution and peace.
Soloists will be Kerry Walters, soprano, of the Bradley University Music Department; Sarah Ponder, mezzo-soprano, Loyola University in Chicago School of Music; Terry Chasteen, tenor, Western Illinois University School of Music; and Saul Nache, baritone, who teaches at Bradley and Illinois Wesleyan Universities and Augustana College. Timothy Semanik, director of the Bradley Symphony Orchestra, and John Jost, director of choral activities at Bradley, will conduct.
General admission is $10, students $5. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 309-677-2650.
