College of Liberal Arts and Sciences - Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Creative Writing: Poetry

The Department of English at Bradley University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing: Poetry.  Appointment begins August 2019.

The University is located on an 85-acre campus in the largest metropolitan area in central Illinois.

Course assignments may include undergraduate writing courses, core curriculum literature, literature surveys, upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as 200-500 level creative writing courses.

Preference given to individuals with a strong publication record, including one or more full-length collections of poetry from a nationally recognized independent, university, or commercial press.  Experience in the publishing/editing fields and teaching Poetics/Forms and Business Communication desired.

Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter addressing the qualifications for the position, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and dossier including unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts, statement of Teaching Philosophy, and a minimum of three current letters of recommendation that attest to successful teaching. The CV should list the number of sections taught for each course (e.g. ENG 207 Introduction to Creative Writing – 8 sections taught).

Candidates should also submit a brief statement about intended future research activity.  Information regarding how the candidate has or can contribute to diversity in teaching, research, or service should be provided either within the teaching and/or research statements or in a stand-alone diversity statement.

Normal teaching load is three courses per semester.  MFA or PhD in Creative Writing: Poetry required by start date.
