Communication and Engineering Services – Network Analyst

Bradley University invites applications for the position of Communication and Engineering Services Network Analyst.

The Network Analyst is responsible for the design, integration, implementation, configuration, and operation of the data network.  This includes overall responsibility for traffic routing, IP address management (including subnetting), VLAN management, Network Address Translation management, managing Spanning Tree (STP), and maintaining network documentation.  There will be other layer 2 and layer 3 networking responsibilities as needed.  Assists with wireless networking design and implementation/maintenance.  Determines bandwidth usage and requirements, working with external providers in a multi-homed BGP environment.  This position deals with all aspects of University operations.

       The most important skills needed for this position are:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of routing, switching, wireless and security configuration and management.
  • Working knowledge of DNS and DHCP.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience with SNMP management and tools
  • Thorough understanding of the issues involved in bandwidth management
  • Experience and understanding of scripting languages for network automation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
  • Network capacity and upgrade planning
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work with, or lead, multi-disciplinary teams to meet project deadlines and resolve service problems
  • Should have a general understanding of the network practices in higher educational institutions
  • Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment (switches, access points, routers, and wireless controllers), Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco Prime, Solarwinds Orion, and Wireshark is desired.
  • Ability to work with or lead other technical team members to resolve suspected or actual network issues
  • The analyst must have the ability to analyze, recommend improvements, and plan for future technology shifts of the university network

A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline is preferred.  Five years of relevant experience is preferred. Certification in networking, such as CCNA or CCNP and familiarity with Bradley University’s network design and operations is desirable.
