Video Game Camp Focuses on PPS Underrepresented Students

June 28, 2018

Video games are everywhere and the Game Design industry is booming. Combining art, programming, design, storytelling, and animation makes Game Design the most creative STEM application in the world.

The 2nd annual In Real Life (IRL) Game Design Camp at Bradley is focused on giving young students an introduction to this industry. This year, the camp has been redesigned and is focused on 7th and 8th graders from Peoria Public Schools who participate in the PPS Foundation's Horizons Career Skills Program.

Nearly 20 students are participating in the camp this week where they will have a chance to create their own video game and learn about making digital art. But even more, they are learning what it's like to go to college and hopefully they will see that college isn't out of their reach at all.

This is the 1st year of the partnership between Bradley and PPS. The IRL camp is free for qualifying students. Camp instructors are from Bradley’s nationally recognized Game Design program.
