Top Instrumental Students To Perform With Honor Band

John T. Madden, Associate Director of Bands at Michigan State University, will conduct the 30th Annual Bradley University High School Honor Band on Tuesday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue.

The performance will feature 90 of the top instrumental students from 40 Central Illinois High Schools. The Bradley Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. David Vroman, will open the performance. Admission is $5 for adults and free to students.

The purpose of the band is to provide high school students with the opportunity to perform with their peers in an Honor Band situation. The experience also encourages students to remain a part of his or her instrumental music program throughout high school and eventually assume a leadership role. Students are selected based on their musical accomplishments.

Mr. Madden is director of the Spartan Marching Band, and conductor of the MSU Symphony Band. He teaches advanced instrumental conducting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and previously taught courses on marching band techniques. He has served on the MSU faculty since the fall of 1989. Madden received the Dortha J. and John D. Withrow Award for Excellence in Teaching from the MSU College of Music in 2014. He was inducted into the prestigious American Bandmasters Association in March of 2008.
