Access Upgrades for Campus Buildings

August 3, 2017

As part of the University’s safety upgrades, the use of the magnetic stripe functionality to enter Swords, Morgan, Campustown, Westlake and Bradley halls will be eliminated starting Wednesday, August 9.  An ID card must be tapped on the access reader to gain access to these buildings.  If the contactless chip in your BUID QuickCard does not work, you must obtain a new card.  Without a working tap feature, you will not be able to access these buildings.

There have been no reports of fraudulent BUID QuickCard activity and personal data is NOT at risk as there are multiple layers of security to protect our facilities.  You may recall the same change was made to the residence halls, St. James and dining facilities in the spring.

If the tap functionality is not working on your BUID Quickcard, you may obtain a new card at the Controller’s Office in Swords Hall between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.Monday through Friday.  There will be no replacement charge if 1) you have a valid BUID QuickCard in your possession, 2) you have not received a new BUID QuickCard since May 2017 and 3) the tap functionality is not working on your BUID Quickcard. Take your card with you to receive a replacement.  There is a $20 fee to replace a lost BUID QuickCard.  For emergency or after-hours assistance, please visit the facilities management/work control office in Macmillan Hall.

Please be aware the Controller’s Office is quite busy at this time of year, so wait times for obtaining a new card will increase as we get closer to the start of the new school year. Please plan accordingly.
