Black History Month

February 2, 2016

February is Black History Month. It is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history.

Bradley University is providing a variety of events highlighting the history and heritage of the individuals who identify with the African American culture.

Office of Diversity and Inclusion Executive Director, Norris Chase, says it's important for people of all races and ethnic backgrounds to attend these programs. "These events aren't just for African American students. They are purposely and intentionally integrated and designed to bring light to the history, the issues and the elements of the African American heritage."

A special presentation by Guest Speaker, Dr. Jonathan Smith, Ph.D., assistant professor of African-American Studies at St. Louis University. He will be presenting “From Jena to Ferguson and Beyond: Blackness and Black Political Consciousness in the Age of the Internet.” This will be held Thursday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library's Wyckoff Room.

Other events include lectures, readings, panel discussions, performances and much more. The full calendar of events can also be found at: http://www.bradley.edu/diversity.
