Biography

Carmen joined Bradley University in 2017 and serves as the Career Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, working with students, faculty, alumni and employers.

Professional Experience

Previous positions held in higher education include Academic Advisor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, graduate assistant for Research and Assessment in Retention Services, the University Scholars Enrichment Program Graduate Coordinator, and Academic Coach while at Illinois State University.

Teaching

Carmen currently teaches "EHS 120: The University Experience" in the Fall semester. This one hour course is designed to help new students adjust to the University environment and works to assists students in gaining an appreciation for higher education, the Bradley Core Curriculum, and the value of a Bradley University education.

She will be teaching "ENC 301: Planning Employment Strategy" starting Fall 2018. This course prepares students for finding internships and full-time employment after graduation. Students develop a systematic approach to long-term career planning including occupational research, organizational research, and practice of job-seeking skills."

Scholarship

As a first-generation student, Carmen is an active advocate for improving the retention rates and ease of access for this student population. Her research interests include first-generation students in higher education and communicating the importance of career development of Liberal Arts majors.
