December 2020 Virtual Commencement FAQs

What is Bradley doing to recognize the December 2020 graduates?

We will recognize our graduates on December 19, 2020 in a virtual commencement ceremony.

I am an August graduate; how will I be recognized?

Our August graduates will be included in the May 2020 virtual commencement ceremony.

What is a virtual ceremony?

A virtual ceremony is a ceremony hosted online that will include the traditional formal remarks and digital slides that announce and honor each graduate.

Will an in-person commencement ceremony be held?

Given the COVID-19 pandemic and the stay-at-home orders, we will not be hosting in-person December 2020 commencement activities.

Will I be able to attend an in-person ceremony at a later date?

Yes. In addition to the virtual ceremonies, all 2020 graduates will be invited to attend an in-person ceremony when it is safe to do so.

If I don’t participate in the virtual ceremony, do I still have to apply to graduate?

Yes, you must apply to graduate regardless of participation in a ceremony. For information about how to apply to graduate as an undergraduate student, please visit: For information about how to apply to graduate as a graduate student, please visit:

Am I required to participate in the ceremony in order to graduate?

No, if you choose not to participate in the ceremony and you have met the university requirements, you will receive your diploma in the mail.

When will I get my diploma?

Diplomas and official transcripts will be mailed approximately six to eight weeks after graduation, pending successful completion of degree requirements. If you have a grade hold on your record for any reason, your diploma(s) will not be released until the hold is cleared. Holds do not inhibit the conferral of a degree, only the release of the official documents (i.e., diplomas, transcripts). Please contact the Registrar at 309-677-3101 if you have any questions.

Will I receive a diploma cover?

Yes, a diploma cover and a gift from the Alumni Association will be sent to you after your diploma has been mailed.

What do I need to do if I want to participate in the ceremony?

All graduates will be sent an email to the email address they provided when they applied to graduate (this may be a personal email or a student email) with further instructions. These instructions will take you to a website that will allow you to record your name and submit a photo and written message to be displayed on your student slide during the ceremony. The deadline to record your name is Friday, November 20, 2020. The deadline to submit a photo and personal message is Wednesday, December 2, 2020. If you no longer have access to the email account you provided when you applied to graduate, please contact Kathy Peters at

What photo and personal message can I submit?

As long as the photo and personal message are appropriate and follow the parameters provided on the website, you can submit anything you like! Please note, all name changes, photos, and personal messages are subject to approval by Bradley University. The University reserves the right to remove or change any information provided by a student. You will be notified if something you provide is being changed or removed. Inclusion in the virtual ceremony does not certify completion of degree requirements by a particular student.

How will I be able to watch the ceremony?

The ceremony will premiere on YouTube on December 19, 2020.

Can I visit campus to take graduation photos?

Bradley’s commitment to minimize COVID-19 infections and safeguard the health of our community requires significant limitations on the number of people on campus.
