COVID-19 Update - Commencement, Billing, Refunds and More
As we do our very best to adapt to the ever-changing environment COVID-19 presents, we hope you and your family have found ways to adjust. All of us at Bradley University remain committed to doing our best to accommodate our students, faculty, staff and their families during this disruption and extraordinary time. We want to provide you with some answers to the important questions you have asked us. Know there are still many more decisions to make and we will continue to communicate those with you.
This note is an update regarding decisions around Commencement, student billing, housing/meal plan refunds, student workers, date and deadline changes, and resources available to you all.
Stay at Home Order Extended
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has extended the state’s Stay at Home order until April 30. Bradley will abide by the state’s recommendations. Essential employees should continue to report to campus and all others should continue to work remotely as they have the past few weeks.
We know how important this is to you, and we are moving forward with plans to have an on-the-ground ceremony to celebrate our graduates and their accomplishments. The date will be established and will, of course, be subject to any ongoing restrictions. We are still weighing our options and will communicate the details to you when they are determined. We will also be mindful to communicate the details with plenty of advanced notice so that all arrangements can be made, including travel and ordering caps and gowns.
Please see below a list of announcements related to student bills for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester:
- For those students who lived in the residence halls and SAC during the spring 2020 semester, but are not currently living in those buildings, you will be issued a refund prorated at 44% of the housing and meal plans for the spring semester. We are diligently working through this process and plan to have the applicable credit amount reflected on each student's billing statement by April 20. When the credit is applied to your student account, it will be used to offset any unpaid, outstanding tuition and fee charges. Any credit balance on your account will result in you being issued a check and it will be mailed to your home address on file.
- For those students who lived in St. James during the spring 2020 semester, but are not currently living there, you will not pay the April and May installments of your lease agreement. If you have already pre-paid you will be issued a refund. The Off-Campus Properties Office will confirm additional details and credits by April 20.
- Please verify your permanent home address on Webster in the next two weeks to ensure any housing/meal plan refunds are being mailed to the appropriate address.
- Bradley will continue to offer instruction, deliver content and issue academic credit for the remainder of the spring semester. Full academic credit will be awarded in accordance with university academic standards. No tuition and fee adjustments will be made for the spring 2020 semester.
- We are waiving late fees associated with the April 2020 and May 2020 tuition payments. Additionally, there will be no registration or grade holds placed on a student’s account if these payments are late.

We know our student workers depend on their paychecks just as our full-time employees do. We are working on a plan to continue paying student employees through the end of the semester, including where we may redeploy students workers to areas where more assistance is needed. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this issue.
Dates and Deadlines
We are extending and revising dates for the following deadlines:
- Academic advising holds: will be placed on a student’s ability to register March 31. This mechanism will continue to allow us to make sure students are receiving academic advising prior to early registration.
- Academic advising: April 13-23
- Early registration: April 16-23
- Last day to drop classes with a "W" on transcript: May 6 (Study Day)
- Incomplete removal deadline for instructors for fall semester 2019 and January Interim 2020: May 6 (grades due in the Registrar's Office)
Teaching and learning: We know all the changes have been quite an adjustment to our normal operations. We have created resource pages to help you navigate the technology and changes we face. Visit the Internal Resources tab on Bradley’s coronavirus website for details to help you “Keep Working,” “Keep Teaching” and “Keep Learning.” Faculty and staff, please familiarize yourself with the student resource list too, in case students ask you for help.
Zoombombing: There have been issues at other universities concerning Zoom where attendees are “bombing” meetings with inappropriate material and content. As IT went through in its training, it is imperative the host of the meeting follows the proper procedures to ensure a secure meeting. IT has created a Zoom QuickStart Guide that includes basic steps to begin a meeting and to set the security settings to avoid these issues. IT remains available to assist you. You can also call the Service Desk at 309-677-2964 (hours: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.).
Academic Forms: There are a number of academic forms on the Registrar's Office website students can use to prepare for early registration, as well as forms for faculty and staff. These forms can be completed and sent electronically. Most of them also accept electronic signatures. Faculty and staff: academic forms available within Docsoup are still operational. Academic Success Center: All services and support is online.
- All tutoring has been moved online to free, one-on-one scheduled appointments. See information about tutoring here.
- Academic coaching may help students organize their time, their priorities and to prepare for upcoming projects and exams. These instructions will show students how to schedule a virtual meeting with staff.
- Students who want to discuss major and minor options can see instructions for meeting with an advisor here.
- Workshops are planned for advising and registration, time management and final exam preparation. Students can register here.
- Supplemental Instruction (SI) continues for the courses in which it was available (BIO 151, CHM 110, MTH 122) previously. Students enrolled in these courses should have received a link via email, to the SI Schedule and instructions to access SI through Sakai.
- The study group guide has been updated to include recommendations for online platforms that support student study groups.
