Student COVID-19 Update
As we fast approach the end of the semester, we wanted to give you the following updates:
Cares Act Update
We understand most students have borne some costs associated with the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19. The university plans to distribute a one-time $400 grant through the CARES Act Emergency Relief Fund toTitle IV eligible students as determined by the Department of Education guidelines. More eligibility guidelines are still being identified.
Eligible students will not need to apply for this one-time grant. The university will disburse the funds directly to the eligible students once guidelines are confirmed. Bradley will also have additional grant funds available for eligible students based on extraordinary expenses related to the disruption of campus operations. An application will need to be completed for this additional funding. More information on the one-time grant disbursement and the additional grant application process will be sent in the weeks to come.
Student Move Out Begins May 1
Those of you who lived in the residence halls, SAC, or St. James received details this week regarding the move-out process, which begins May 1. All residence halls will require you to register for a specific day and time slot to move out. We also have put several restrictions in place in an effort to keep everyone safe and to abide by all social distancing rules. We consulted with the Peoria County Health Department and Bradley's medical director to create this process.
Please be sure to read the email thoroughly if you lived in the residence halls, SAC, St. James, or the Delta Tau Delta or Phi Kappa Phi houses. All other housing operations, including Main Street Commons, individual rental properties, fraternities and sororities are operated by outside agencies. All questions regarding the operations of these properties should be directed to the appropriate landlord.
Slane College Students
Many have asked how to retrieve personal property being stored within the departments of the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts. Beginning May 1, all SCCFA students must email the following department personnel to schedule an appointment with a minimum of two-days notice for property pick-up:
- Art & Design:vicki@fsmail.bradley.edu
- Music:bmoore@fsmail.bradley.edu
For those of you who have SCCFA property, please contact crabe@bradley.eduto make arrangements for its return.
Student Workers Key Return
If you are a student worker and have a key(s) to a building, you should return the key(s) to MacMillan Hall. If you will not be on campus, please tape the key(s) securely to an index card or piece of cardboard and send them in a padded envelope to: Bradley University - Facilities, c/o Jayne Dant, 1501 W Bradley Ave., Peoria, IL 61625. Please note if you do not use a padded envelope your key will not make it back to the University. The postal machines will most likely rip the envelope and the key will fall out when being processed.
Commencement
For those who are graduating, we know this is not how you planned to celebrate your achievements. Even though we can’t be together, we have some plans in place to celebrate you:
- Friday, May 15, we will release “The Last Lecture” video by Brad Eskridge and graduating senior MacKenzie Newman.
- Saturday, May 16, we will release a video created to salute the graduates’ accomplishments and ability to adapt to this crisis.
- We plan to share with our graduates a fun digital toolkit that includes Instagram GIF stickers, Zoom backgrounds, printable signs, Facebook frames, augmented reality filters and a Spotify playlist.
- We have a few more ideas up our sleeves, but we don’t want to give them all away right now. More details about the May celebrations will be coming next week.
While we know these efforts are not enough to replace a May ceremony or any on-campus experience, we do want to recognize you on what would have been your graduation day. We also want to give you some tools to display and share your Bradley experience proudly.
We will hold a special ceremony for the May & August graduates on December 19. More details will be shared later this summer. All plans are contingent upon government and health guidelines.
Book Returns
If you rented books from the bookstore, you will receive emails reminding you to return your rentals. The email will have a link to thebookstore website where you will be able to print a UPS label for the returns.
You will have until August 26 to return any checked out items to the library. Up until this date, there will be no fines for any late items. If you are on campus you may return items through the exterior drop box at the library or mail them to Cullom-Davis Library, 1501 West Bradley Avenue, Peoria, IL 61625. If you do mail back your books, please keep your receipt in case a book gets lost in transit.
Fall 2020
Bradley is committed to resuming on-campus classes beginning August 26, as scheduled, while keeping the health and safety of all students, faculty and staff as its top priority. The Virus Response Team, with assistance from representatives from the faculty and staff, are diving deep into fall 2020 scenario planning. The university is preparing several plans of action for reinstating campus operations with the final determination of how and when to be based on federal, state and local health guidelines.
We are Here for You
This is our fourth and final installment of the “We are Here for You” video series. We hope you have enjoyed seeing these messages from your faculty and staff members. They miss you as much as you miss the Hilltop!
