Stephen Standifird

Stephen Standifird MBA Ph.D., dean of Butler University’s Andre B. Lacy School of Business since 2014, will become Bradley University’s 12th president effective June 15. Standifird succeeds Gary R. Roberts, a 1970 Bradley graduate, who steps down May 31. Roberts announced his intent to retire last May.

The Lacy School of Business is Butler’s second-largest school with approximately 1,160 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. During Standifird’s tenure, undergraduate enrollment grew 23%. Last fall, the Lacy School of Business unveiled its new 110,000 square foot, $50 million building.

Prior to joining Butler in 2014, Standifird served as dean of the business school at the University of Evansville. He previously held the positions of associate dean of graduate and professional programs and director of undergraduate programs, both at the University of San Diego. He began his higher education career as a faculty member at Western Washington University.

During his career in higher education, Standifird has served as a visiting lecturer at the Academy of Entrepreneurship and Management in Warsaw, Poland, has published more than two dozen articles in nearly as many publications and has presented at numerous conferences.

His teaching and research areas include strategic management, power and politics in organizations, international management, doing business in China, organizational behavior, organizational design and change, and principles of management.

Standifird serves on the boards of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana and the Central Indiana Academy of Dance.

After earning his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University, Standifird worked with the oil company Amoco. It was during that time he earned an MBA from Northwestern University and became interested in business. Standifird went on to earn a doctorate in organization studies from the University of Oregon.

Standifird is married to Vivian Lee Standifird, CFO at Rehab Medical, Inc. The couple has two young daughters, Sorana, 10, and Brianna, 6.
